SUMMARY:Joutes oratoires lycéennes d’Écosse
DESCRIPTION:Les Joutes oratoires lycéennes d’Écosse\, a great way to develop critical thinking skills\, knowledge\, and improve your French! \nThey are an opportunity for S6 students to debate social issues in French. Why participate? High school students who participate in the debates gain confidence in themselves and in their command of the French language. The competition allows them to address current topics such as the environment\, education and culture. They learn to construct coherent arguments in French by interacting with their classmates in an improvised manner. Thanks to their preparation\, French becomes a more familiar language that they listen to and read regularly. \nIn order for students to get the most out of their participation in the debates\, the motions are closely based on the themes of the Advanced Higher course\, and in particular the topics proposed by SQA in the written part of the exam\, i.e. the ‘Discursive Writing’ section. \nThis is excellent preparation for all of these tests: vocabulary revision\, pronunciation\, active listening\, improvisation\, formulating questions that take into account the arguments put forward\, etc. \nOrganised in partnership with George Heriot’s School\, the first edition of Joutes oratoires lycéennes d’Écosse will take place at the Institut français d’Ecosse.
