Celebrate languages in schools
Languages Week Scotland serves as a vibrant platform dedicated to fostering language learning and promoting multilingualism. We support schools with a variety of resources, including daily challenges, suggested activities and school showcases.
Our goal is to encourage schools throughout Scotland to engage their learners, families, and communities through the celebration of languages, creating a country that values and celebrates linguistic diversity.
Everyone is invited to take part in our daily challenges. Work with your class, teacher, family or friends and join in!

We have put together ideas to support schools in celebrating Languages Week Scotland. These are grouped into ideas for early years and primary, and ideas for secondary. Each activity has a suggested timeframe.
Early Years & Primary
Ideas to celebrate Languages Week Scotland in early years and primary settings.
Secondary
Ideas to celebrate languages in secondary schools.
Celebrate languages with your family
Scotland is a “linguistic powerhouse”, with more than 5% of young people using a language other than English at home, and all learners across the country having access to learning a first additional language from P1 and a second from P5.
Languages Week Scotland is an opportunity to celebrate the diversity of languages – used and being learnt – in homes and families across the country.

Celebrate languages in Scotland’s communities
Languages Week Scotland is a fantastic opportunity for communities to come together and showcase the rich tapestry of languages across Scotland. Community groups, culture, arts and sports organisations, social enterprises – both large and small – are invited to join in the celebrations.
